The Mayors ‘Chain Of Office’

The Chain of Office was commissioned by the City to mark Canada’s 100th Birthday in 1967.  It is worn by the mayor at council meetings and formal functions.

The chain includes 17 shields with subjects of local significance to Guelph such as a tree stump to represent the founding of Guelph by John Galt and a Horse to represent the Horse of Hanover.

The chain of office is also engraved with the names of the seven Mayors who have worn it.

In 2017, the Chain of Office will turn 50 as Canada celebrates its 150th birthday.
