Take a walk on the Historical side of Guelph

Learn about Guelph’s history on a Historical Walking Tour presented by the Guelph Arts Council.

For over 30 years, Guelph Arts Council has promoted the cultural heritage of Guelph by offering walking tours delivered by a dedicated group of volunteer heritage enthusiasts

These tours offer a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to learn about Guelph’s rich history while taking in the beautiful architectural and natural features of the city.

During post-war expansion, many of Guelph’s downtown stone buildings were destroyed. These tours help give people a chance to appreciate the remaining buildings to help ensure their preservation.

There are six different walking tours on selected Sundays from April to October (excluding July).

The cost is $5 per person in cash to the guide, or online through the guelpharts.ca events calendar. Advance registration is not required.

Available on each tour are keepsake booklets, which are also available at Guelph Arts Council, The Bookshelf at 41 Quebec St., and Guelph Civic Museum. Special group tours can be arranged by contacting the Guelph Arts Council.

These booklets offer historical information and architectural drawings, which also allows self-guided tours and makes a wonderful keepsake. Downloadable booklets are also available.

Each tour starts at 2 p.m. and runs approximately two hours. Tours run rain or shine, with cancellations only in extreme weather.
